Meadow Vale deliver over 240kg of chicken in bumper December Donation!
Published on 15th December 2023
It’s Christmas, which means it’s time to give back! Meadow Vale Foods is delighted to have made a large donation of tasty chicken to Fareshare food distribution charity, along with two local homeless support providers, The Wrexham Foyer homeless shelter and Soul Kitchen Chester.
As the cost-of-living crisis continues to hit the most vulnerable in our society, we stepped up our support once more by donating over 240kg of tasty chicken. That’s the equivalent of 1,600 meals filling the freezers for those most in need.
For many years, we have made regular donations to the Clywyd Alyn Wrexham Foyer, an 18-bed supported living service in the centre of Wrexham for single homeless men and women aged between 16 and 25.
The shelter provides high quality single room accommodation and offers 24-hour support, including advice on money management, healthcare, access to employment and thanks to charitable donations such as ours, the provision of regular nutritious meals.
After filling the freezer at their headquarters, Clywyd Alyn administrator Dawn Elliot spoke of her delight with the continued generosity of Meadow Vale donations, saying:
“I was delighted to return back from my lunch to find our freezer filled with all manner of goodies! We are all very appreciative. Thank you so very much for all of your generosity and support."
Another beneficiary of our charitable chicken donations is the Soul Kitchen Chester, who are a 100% voluntary organisation that do fantastic work in the community supporting and feeding anybody experiencing loneliness, food poverty or homelessness.
They provide support through advocacy and activities to improve mental and physical health, as well as providing healthy meals to those who have financial difficulties feeding themselves and their families.
Head of the organisation, Helen Anthony thanked Meadow Vale on receiving another freezer full of tasty chicken to be distributed to families in need of support over Christmas:
“Thanks to Meadow Vale for this generous donation. This year we are organising many people’s Christmases as well as our own, so this will go a long way to help the most vulnerable in our community over the festive period.”
It is the first time we have donated to FareShare, the UK’s national network of charitable food redistributors made up of 18 independent organisations, providing vulnerable people with the equivalent of 1 million meals a day nationwide.
The group takes quality surplus food from across the food sector and get it to nearly 8,500 frontline charities and community groups, including school breakfast clubs, homeless shelters and community cafes.
Our donation of 100kg of quality frozen chicken to Fareshare’s Liverpool depot comes at a busy time for the organisation, who are delivering to thousands of families facing hunger due to the cost of living crisis over the winter period.
As part of our commitment to sustainable practice, we pride ourselves on making regular donations to charitable organisations, making sure nothing goes to waste and positive relationships are made in the local community.
We look forward to continuing our monthly donations to local charities as part of our commitment to tackling poverty and reducing waste in the future.
