Meadow Vale proud to sponsor the Nicola’s Fund Children’s Christmas Party

Meadow Vale Foods will sponsor a Children’s Christmas Party hosted by the Nicola’s Fund charity this November, as part of our commitment to giving back to the community.

We are delighted to continue our support for the charity managed by a team of trustees and volunteers, using every penny that is raised to organise events and holidays for families of children suffering with cancer.

Over the last 16 years, Nicola’s Fund has heavily contributed towards improving the quality of lives of children fighting cancer, helping hundreds of families and raising more than half a million pounds.

Last year, Meadow Vale donated £1,000 to Nicola’s Fund which was used on a Centre Parcs holiday for a family supported by the charity.

This year, Nicola’s fund will welcome families to The Pavillion at Chester Racecourse for their Children's Christmas Party, an afternoon of fun activities sponsored by Meadow Vale, including face painting, glitter tattoos and a chance to visit Santa and the elves in his special grotto!

There will be food including ice cream, a cake stall and a sweetie table offering a tasty treat, along with festive music and gifts galore! All in the name of bringing families together to get in the holiday spirit.

Managing Director of Meadow Vale Foods, Nigel O’Donell, spoke of his delight with the latest initiative of support for the charity, saying:

“It’s an honour to continue supporting Nicola’s Fund and the work it does helping families going through challenging periods with fantastic incentives such as this.”

Natasha’s Law is coming… We are here to help

It is estimated that one in five people have a food allergy in the UK.

With the aim to protect those with food allergies and give greater confidence in the food they buy, the UK Food Information Amendment, known as Natasha’s Law, comes into full effect from 1st October 2021, following the tragic death of Natasha Ednan-Laperouse in 2018.

What is Natasha’s law and does it affect your business?

Currently, the allergen information for foods that are pre-packaged for direct sale (PPDS) can be provided by any means, including verbally by staff.

From 1st October 2021, Natasha’s Law will require all UK food businesses to provide full ingredient lists and allergen labelling on all PPDS foods. This includes all foods that have been packed prior to the customer ordering, whether on your premises or purchased from a third party.

Are you ready?

According to the new rules, PPDS food will have to clearly display the following information on the packaging:

• Name of the food.
• Full ingredients list, with allergenic ingredients emphasised (for example in bold, italics, or a different colour).

To help you make your final checks, we’ve put together a 5 Step checklist, including several useful links with more information, to see if you’re ready for the legislation changes:

1. Check your menu regularly:

Know which foods are PPDS and check labelling is fully compliant.

2. Speak to Suppliers:

Stay close to each touchpoint in your supply chain to ensure PPDS info is accurate.

3. Train your Team:

Training is fundamental to ensure all your employees understand the change in legislation.

4. Final Checks:

Check that your labelling is clear and correct and that your team are confident, have a practice run.

Reducing Allergens

All traces of milk and egg have been removed from the coated chicken products (some of the most common allergens found in food products), whilst ensuring each bag still contains the same great tasting chicken.

Meadow Vale Foods donate £1000 to the Nicola's Fund

Meadow Vale Foods was proud to present a £1000 cheque to the Nicola’s Fund charity at our headquarters earlier this week.

Founded by Nicola’s parents, the charity is managed by a team of trustees and volunteers, using every penny that is raised to organise events and holidays for families of children fighting cancer.

Over the last 15 years, they have helped over 550 families and have raised more than half a million pounds, heavily contributing towards improving the quality of lives of the families effected by the disease.

We were delighted to learn that our £1000 donation will go towards a Centre Parks holiday for a family supported by the Nicola’s fund.

Debbie Riley, mother of Nicola, was on-hand to receive the cheque at our Meadow Vale base, presented by our Managing Director Nigel O’Donnell and was thankful to all the staff for making the donation possible.

Making regular donations to charitable to fantastic organisations like the Nicola’s fund, is part of our ongoing commitment to creating positive relationships in the community and we look forward to supporting similar causes in the future.

Meadow Vale make sizable donation to Soul Kitchen Chester

Committed to our charitable causes in the local community, we’re delighted to have made a large donation of great tasting chicken to the fantastic Soul Kitchen in Chester.

Soul Kitchen is a 100% voluntary organisation who do fantastic work in the community supporting & feeding anybody experiencing loneliness, food poverty or homelessness.

They provide support through advocacy and activities to improve mental and physical health, as well as providing healthy meals to those who have financial difficulties feeding themselves and their families.

Meadow Vale donated around 80kg of seriously tasty chicken to fill the freezer and head of the organisation Helen Anthony was delighted to receive the donation, saying:

‘We’re always looking at doing more to help and support the most vulnerable in our community so it’s great news that Meadow Vale have made this fantastic donation, it will go a long way”

As part of our commitment to sustainable practice, we pride ourselves on making regular donations to charitable organisations, making sure nothing goes to waste and positive relationships are made in the local community.
